One of his most defining acts of defiance was during the construction of the controversial Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal, which threatened Punjab’s water rights and was seen by Sikhs as a direct attack on their livelihood. When peaceful protests failed to stop the injustice, Shaheed Bhai Balwinder Singh Jatana took a stand that would make him immortal in the hearts of his people.

With divine faith and determination, he destroyed a section of the SYL canal’s infrastructure, symbolising the Sikh resolve to defend their land, honour, and rights no matter the cost. This act was not of rebellion but of righteousness, a message to the world that faith cannot be silenced by power.
